Question For The Garage Queen's

Recommended Posts

To reset or not to reset, that is the question.

I didn't get the opportunity to drive my car as often as I would have liked over this last year. Even though I only drove about 1800 miles in the last 10 months, my service light still turned on twice this year. I changed the oil 6 months ago. With mineral oil, regardless of the mileage I would change the oil every 6 months. The car is garaged in California, so weather isn't really a factor.

How often do you low milers change your synthetic oil?

I have the same issue...and change my oil at least once per year with either Motorcraft or Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w50 and a Ford Racing fliter.. With little or no mileage I think 6 months is overkill. Hit the reset and you are going for another 6 months.

I have averaged about 1,000 miles a year....I change it once a year, every summer, and ignore the light.I am told the Oil light illumination is a simple % a month depletion of the useful life until reaching six months, at which point the cars electronics assume the oil has 0 useful life left. My engine hasn't seized yet!

I just changed oil after about four years, although my oil only had about 900 miles on it.

I sent this sample in to Blackstone and they basically told me I wasted my money as there was still plenty of "juice" on the previous change.

I know most swear by changing it out once a year, but I've never seen anything to justify this practice other than it just feels like the right thing to do to some folks. I've even posed the "why change once/year" question to the oil experts, and all I've heard back is crickets.

For the same reason I go to church on Sunday.

GUILT.

Not sure if you are serious ...hopefully not. But in case you are serious and the only reason you are attending church is guilt, may I suggest you start new by finding a new church.
